Feature Flags Change Everything About Product Development

11:30 PM - 12:30 AM
By Ben Nadel

Five years ago, I didn't know what feature flags were. Today, I can't imagine building products without them. Come learn what feature flags are, how they completely revolutionized the way that I write code, and why feature flags now live alongside "Logging" and "Metrics" as the keystones of safe and effective software development.

Securing ColdFusion Applications

01:30 AM - 02:30 AM

In this session we'll look at the ten most critical security concerns facing web applications today. With each one we'll look at strategies, tools and techniques ColdFusion developers can use to help mitigate these issues.

Scaling and Clustering ColdFusion 2021

07:30 PM - 08:30 PM
By Micheal Collins

In this session we will review best practices around configuring load balancing features inside ColdFusion. We will demonstrate how you can connect multiple instances together to balance load across all the instances using the Tomcat Connector. We will also demonstrate how the Performance Monitor toolset can provide visibility of the health of each instance. We will discuss all the options with sharing session-based data across all instances, including Redis, to provide you with the optimal high availability environment.

NoSQL, solving your relationship problems one model at a time

09:30 PM - 10:30 PM
By Dave Ferguson

" NoSQL, the term coined by nerds that has multiple meanings. Meanings aside, it is a powerful alternative to traditional RDBMS. NoSQL databases are a not-so-new way to look at data storage for your apps without being bound to a tight data structure. So, if you are even a little bit curious as to how NoSQL can help your app this is the session for you. In this session, we will go over what NoSQL is and what it isn't. We will go over the setup inside ColdFusion and how to query the data. We will also go over where it makes sense to use NoSQL dbs and where it doesn't. "

ColdFusion at 25: not the kid most have stuck in their minds

01:30 AM - 02:30 AM
By Charlie Arehart

As ColdFusion turns 26 next month, many seem stuck remembering it only as the "teen" they knew or even the "child", when instead it's grown up to be a capable ""adult"", impressive in many ways, and even more so recently. In this session, we'll look back at how CF has indeed evolved into a very capable platform, with quite modern features that seem to surprise many—including people working with it currently. If you struggle "finding CF people" or "getting buy-in", perhaps these observations could help you with both challenges. If nothing else, they’re things designed simply to help you get your job done, while keeping up with modern practices. We'll start with many modern coding techniques--which will be familiar to those using more "modern" languages but that many don't realize that CF supports, and may have for years. We'll then look at ways CF installation/deployment, configuration/administration, monitoring, security, and more have improved over the years. And we'll look not only at CF itself but the community surrounding it, ranging from resources for help and learning to tools and services that others have created, making CF a far more complete ecosystem than most give it credit. Put another way: it's not your father's CF!

Despite the best testing efforts & due diligence of programmers, we still find that applications break, perform poorly and businesses are impacted, costing direct loss of revenue and indirect damage due to unhappy customer experience. The challenge is to minimize application downtime and accelerate time to resolution. The answer is FusionReactor. The presentation will demonstrate how FusionReactor can highlight performance problems and instantly spot issues as they unfold, pinpointing right down to the line of code that's the problem. If you’re using ColdFusion or indeed any Java application, then join David Tattersall - to learn how FusionReactor and Nerd.Vision can turn you into a SUPER HERO. Among the things attendees will learn are Identifying common performance issues in your applications How to quickly identify memory problems in transactions, queries and on the heap Easily debug your production code using FusionReactor or Nerd.Vision Automated error detection - sit back and relax and let FusionReactor do all the work You can read more about FusionReactor here - https://www.fusion-reactor.com/ and Nerd.Vision here - https://www.nerd.vision/

ColdFusion Modernization Challenges - Improving Legacy Code while Retaining Your Sanity

11:30 PM - 12:30 AM
By David Byers

Every ColdFusion developer is a builder and an artist. We want to create and craft beautiful, elegant solutions with CFML that are powerful and dynamic… but sometimes, we still need to deal with the legacy code that was built a decade ago by a developer who has long since left the organization and didn’t know what they were doing to begin with. Or, maybe the company direction has shifted (again) and what was a priority in the past is no longer relevant. Maybe the approach you originally took to a problem can be done cleaner, and more efficiently. Maybe there’s new functionality in ColdFusion that renders old approaches obsolete. At some point, modernization of your approach becomes necessary to retain your sanity!

Scalable, Responsive Apps and Services with Queues and Pub/Sub Mechanisms

01:30 AM - 02:30 AM
By Brian Klaas

" We all want our web apps and APIs to respond quickly and scale to dizzying heights of traffic. The traditional request/response cycle of web applications gets us part way to that goal, but it certainly won't get us to being the next Amazon. Asynchronous messaging is a powerful architectural pattern that will help us avoid fundamental problems with scaling while keeping our ColdFusion apps fast and responsive. In this session, we'll look at how systems like Amazon's Simple Queue Service (SQS) and Simple Notification Service (SNS) — along with similar systems in Azure and Google Cloud Platform — can help you build highly responsive, highly scalable apps and services. We'll also see how easy it is to talk to these messaging services from your ColdFusion apps with the latest cloud integration features in ColdFusion 2021."
